Tips for Selling a Home

There are all sorts of tips to making a home presentable in order to sell it. You want to have people envision themselves in your home. If potential buyers can do this, and develop an emotional connection, they will be more likely to show interest and maybe even put in an offer. Below you’ll find some basic tips for selling a home.

First impressions are very important when it comes to selling a home. Some might argue that the exterior of the home is almost as important as the interior. A simple thing anyone who is selling a home can do is a basic upkeep of the front of the home. If applicable, sweep the front porch, clean the windows, even power wash the front entrance and surrounding areas. Simple landscaping is also a great item to check off the to do list. Mow the grass and replace or replant where it is needed. The key here is to make obvious repairs. If there is peeling paint or cracked siding, these should be tended to, especially if they are on the front side of the home. The goal is to make the front of the home, and the entryway, as inviting as possible.

Another tip is to clear out the clutter. Rent a storage unit for the month and haul over excess items. A big culprit of extra items is the garage. Although a great way to store various things, no potential owner can envision their car in the garage with your Christmas decorations surrounding it. With the rental of a storage unit, you also have the opportunity to remove overflow furniture pieces and possessions. Some buyers will want to visualize their items and furniture in each room. Also, less stuff makes for seemingly larger areas and rooms!

Top to bottom cleaning is very important. Even though you might love your brightly colored walls, it is less likely to help sell your home. A fresh paint job in a neutral color such as grey, tan, or white is one of the easiest things to do to help enhance the potential of a home for buyers. Don’t forget to clean the baseboards, windowsills, and carpet. There should be no noticeable dust or odor present. The home should be presented as clean and fresh.

Hiring the right agent is often overlooked. The right agent for you should have experience in the housing market you are selling in. The agent should communicate effectively with you and respond to calls and emails. This agent should make you feel comfortable and exude trust. Also, be sure to inform your agent of any selling points such as recent upgrades or renovations. The agent should also be mindful of the school districts, and neighborhood specifics.
