Colors and the Psychology of a Happy Home

When getting ready to sell your home, or even when you just feel like you need a change, something to look at is the psychology of colors in the home. As always, natural light sources such as windows or skylights are best for maintaining energy levels. Also, a dimmer switch in certain rooms can allude to a relaxing or energizing atmosphere. The colors mentioned below can be added to the rooms in small touches or accessories.

The bedroom is commonly associated with the color blue. Blue has been said to lower blood pressure and heart rate. It can also be calm and reassuring. To add to the calm and reassuring atmosphere always make your bed. This habit has been proven to be associated with higher productivity and greater levels of happiness. An office or study should be associated with the color purple. This color is historically associated with creativity and wealth. In addition, the bathroom area of a household should be accessorized with earthly tones as well as plants.

The color promoted in a living room is green. Green is said to promote rest and recuperation. It is also important to incorporate natural light in the living room. If natural light is scarce, halogen light bulbs are said to mimic natural light the best. The color red is associated with the dining room. Although the color red is said to raise blood pressure and heart rate, it can also stimulate conversation making it an ideal color for a dining room. The kitchen should incorporate the color yellow, as it is a bright and sunny color and is ideal for situations such as eating your breakfast in the morning.

These colors can be incorporated into rooms of your home to promote healthy mind and living. As previously said, rooms do not have to be painted in these colors but small accessories can evoke some positive emotions.
